Greetings fellow film fans:

There is one new film opening at Laramie theaters this week, "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts" which is the latest sequel to the long-running series of Transformers movies that began in 2007.

Some good movies in town include "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse", "The Little Mermaid", "Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3" and "Fast X ".

Both movie theaters in town are running low-cost movie series for kids this summer. The annual Summer Kids Movie Series at the Studio City theater features 10 movies for $10. Ticket sales benefit Americorps Senior Foster Grandparent Volunteers in area schools. A special kid's combo popcorn and drink is available for the series, costing $4. The Regal Fox Theater in Laramie runs a similar film series, called The Summer Movie Express. Movies in the kid's film series at the Regal cost $2 each, along with a Tuesday popcorn discount for those with a Regal Crown Club card. Two new comedies are opening in Laramie this week. Hollywood doesn't do comedies well, but "No Hard Feelings" is getting better reviews than most Hollywood comedies. If you are tired of the same old kind of movies, you might try "Asteroid City", the latest film from offbeat director Wes Anderson ("Moonrise Kingdom" and "The Grand Budapest Hotel"). Only Wes Anderson fans will find this film familiar. His films are an acquired taste. This one may not convert many new viewers to Wes Anderson fandom, but even those new to his films, will find "Asteroid City" very imaginative, with a unique look.
