The first time we sat around the table, mamaliga was served with sarmale, pickled cabbage rolls stuffed with rice and meat. The firm corn dish had a mild taste, but its warm, savory flavor perfectly complimented the hearty, vinegary sarmale.
Over the next few days, Dorina cooked mamaliga to accompany pork and noodle soup, and as a main dish with cheese and sour cream. Fortunately she agreed to demonstrate the latter preparation to us, and show us what had become second nature to her. It was time to make mamaliga magic.
Then slowly add in the corn flour, mixing continuously and pouring in more until it is the consistency of your liking. Our seasoned chef said you will know if you should add more (depending on whether you like it gooey or firm), but for us beginners, 250 grams of corn flour was about right.

La Liga 1, anteriormente conocida como Divizia A y actualmente conocida como Superliga por razones de patrocinio, es la mxima categora entre clubes de ftbol de Rumania. Se juega desde 1909, y participan en ella 16 clubes. El campeonato es organizado por la Liga Profesionistă de Fotbal (LPF) y desde la temporada 2006-07 se denomina Liga I. El cambio de nombre se debe a que la marca Divizia A fue registrada anteriormente por otra empresa.
El sistema consiste en partidos de ida y vuelta, siguiendo un calendario establecido por la Federacin Rumana de Ftbol, y el que obtenga la mayor cantidad de puntos ser el campen de liga. Desde 2021, el campen se clasifica para la segunda ronda previa de la Liga de Campeones de la UEFA. El subcampen y el tercer clasificado jugarn la ronda previa de la Liga Europa Conferencia de la UEFA. Los dos ltimos descienden a la Liga II, mientras que los puestos 13 y 14 juegan una promocin para evitar el descenso con el tercer y cuarto clasificado de la Liga II.
