Hi Melody,
... I had wanted to write to tell you though that since Darren from GAPE passed me a copy of Land of the Sky, I got a chance to read it on the bus ride back to BKK...talk about speaking in truths that resonate but are so rarely heard...
Now if only it could get to the message so loud and clear into the halls of power. Story by story, the book certainly brings out such a clear picture of the reality and it's got me thinking and wondering how to get this further out to the world.
Kudos to you and the entire team of all who collaborated to breathe life into this project! I do hope the words of wisdom from these young people will be carried far beyond the written pages. Reading it all definitely started making me think of ways this could be possible.... Yet, the fear permeating work on social, economic and environmental justice within the confines of the borders now seems ever more overwhelming and the paralysis caused by the recent context and happenings could certainly have some serious impacts. Despite all this, it is so clear that more space for voices such as those brought forward in this book must be made so that leverage for change will be possible...
I'll be back in Laos in about a week, and will stay in touch...but in the meantime, best of wishes for a happy, healthy new year, and onwards for a 2013 in which dignity, justice, and well-being will advance,
