| BL & all friends, I came back from Nonghet, a foggy and mountainous district bordering Vietnam. There, Keobounthanh and I helped ChildFund Laos to develop creative and critical thinking and writing skills in ethnic youth so that they would be able to write case studies on development programs in their own villages. The weather was much better than that in VTE. The only problem was difficulty to find Lao food. We had to eat noodle and noodle soup all the time. On the way
to Nonghet, we had stopped at Phonesavanh High School and Khankhai Teacher Training College where we had handed over some copies of our book "The Land of the Sky"to the directory boards. Each place had received twenty copies. Actually they need more since there are so few materials in Lao language. We have to think of another project. I read the book "attitudes and altitudes" by Pat Messiti. It is a fascinating book. In Laos today, we need this kind of book. As you know, to help Lao kids, we cannot rely on the education system here we need to find a way to help them to develop their good and right thinking. And this is our Creative Writing Group's mandate. I feel my remaining time is not much. But there are so many things I want to do for our
motherland and country people, in particular the new generation. Attached are some photos of our activities for the last ten days. Two Hmong boys were my best trainees. They were very active and enthusiastic in learning new things. Huck Pheng Thouk Thouk Khon, Bounthanh |
