Archaeologists to get training

(KPL 20/8/10) The Heritage Department of the Ministry of Information
and Culture
has signed an agreement with the Cultural Heritage Protection
Cooperation
Office, Asia-Pacific Cultural Centre for UNESCO to carry out a
training course
for local archaeologists.

The training is designed to enable 15 archaeologists and technical
officials of
the Cultural Research Institute, Cultural Heritage Protection and
Management
Office and museums, who have experience in excavation, research and
protection
of cultural heritage and ancient artefacts. Subjects to be taught at
the
training include database establishment and data collection on ancient
artefacts, sketching and photocopying by jute papers and the
photographing of
artefacts.

According to the agreement, the Cultural Heritage Protection
Cooperation Office
of the UNESCO's Asia-Pacific Cultural Centre is committed to
dispatching
experts to conduct the training course, to be held in Vientiane on 1-6
November. The signatories to the document were Director General of the
National
Heritage Department, Mr. Thongsa Sayavongkhamdy, and Mr. Nidhimura
Yasushi,
Director of the Heritage Protection Cooperation Office, Asia-Pacific
Cultural
Centre for UNESCO. "This training course will have 15 trainees from
provinces
across the country. The participants will learn about photographing,
drawing,
data collection and inventory work," said Mr. Thongsa on Wednesday.

"Seven lecturers and one photographer from Japan will be invited to
share their
experience at the training course," added Mr. Thongsa.
