Dear Hana, Ounkeo, Anne-Sophie, Nishan, Hongthong, Rick and Lis,
Hope you are all well?
I wanted to give you an update on the small grants programme. Things are still definitely moving ahead and we are now ready to receive applications from Laos and other countries in the Mekong region.
We have made some very small procedural changes to the overall grants application process – the updated introductory document is now attached.
The main change is that we would like any new applicants to first develop a 1-2 page concept note, which is also attached to this email. The objective of putting the very basic information into a concept note format (who you are, what you are proposing to do, your previous experience of managing grants etc.) is to be able to let myself and my colleagues here in London make an initial judgement about if your work is something we are able to support under our small grants programme – without wasting your time asking you to fill out a complete application form for a project which we haven’t yet discussed in detail.
I know that there were a number of ideas which you all had discussed with me, so please let me know if you are interested in pursuing any of these and if so, please put the basic ideas down in this concept note and get it back to me and we can discuss it further?
As I said before, there is no deadline for this, but obviously, we know you are doing very important work and there are critical activities and events happening throughout 2012 which Global Witness would very much like to be able to support if we can.
Please distribute this to other groups, I am contacting them aswell separately, but appreciate any assistance you can give to circulate this update further.
Finally, I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce you all to Josie Cohen, who has joined Global Witness as a campaigner to work with me on the Land Campaign, she is cc’d above. In the long run, Josie will be taking the lead on managing the work we do in Laos, so I very much hope that we can both come and visit and catch up with you all soon.
Please do not hesitate to get in contact with us if you have any questions – we are happy to discuss this on skype.
With thanks
Megan
