Vientiane - Laos will host a meeting of Asian and European landlocked
countries in March to assess progress in developing trade routes to
the sea, media reports said Wednesday.

Foreign Affairs Minister Thongloun Sisoulith said more than 50
delegations of the Landlocked Developed Countries in Asia and Europe
would attend, the Vientiane Times reported.

The bloc of 31 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe and South America was
set up in 2001 under the aegis of the United Nations.

Asian members include Bhutan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Mongolia,
Nepal, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. European members
include Armenia, Azerbaijan, Macedonia and Moldova.

The Laos meeting will prepare for an international review of a plan to
promote development of efficient transport systems in landlocked and
developing countries.//DPA
