I do not know what Linux distro is best suited for Sri Lanka, but I
know it has to have this quality; It must be just like a pirated
version of windows: It must be easy to install, after installation it
must be ready for use and you should be able to install additional
applications from a CD/DVD with no internet connection.

Oh, and most of all, you should not have to type in commands to re-
compile the kernel everytime you install a software application.

..and did I mention drivers? There should be drivers for the most
common hardware by major peripheral vendors.

Since Linux is Open source & available free copies it is very useful
to our country. Also now it is difficult 2 find Windows pirate copies
(Vista) we have to pay everything we use.I think still linux platforms
are lesser vulnerable to viruses than windows. They gives the freedom
of viewing & modifying a source code, so it has something to learn.

Well this is a good question...before all i have to remind that Linux
is not the hard to use geeks OS anymore..its very user friendly with
the advancements of the Graphical User Environments like GNOME or
KDE...for starters most of the PC users in SL are accustomed to use
Microsux Windblows...and they think installing windows and using it is
very easy (it is not). any way we have to find a GUI that has the same
elements as the windows desktop for a Linux distribution, KDE can be
customized to look just like windows and its way more powerful so in a
Linux Distro for windows KDE is a must. then comes the Driver
compatibility..the latest Linux kernel is compatible with almost all
of the hardware available in the mainstream...so the distro must have
the latest Linux Kernel...and the most Important thing is the distro
has to be free...So all in all what comes to my mind is Kubuntu linux
(the version of Ubuntu linux with the KDE GUI) is the suiting Linux
Distro for SL...Its very easy to install only an idiot will do it
wrong..its compatible with a plethora of hardware...the only problem
is that u have to install a third party Codec if u want to play
Proprietary media like All flavors of MPEG standard (mp3,mp2,H.264
etc), windows Media, the lot..but its very easy to install cause of
the Kubunu's robust Package management system...but its up to u to
explore the thousands of linux distros available for the most advanced
users to complete idiots....

remember Microsoft is Evil
Windows Vista is the most Disgusting OS after Windows ME
