I have a number of projects in languagedepot, and I'd like to try using languageforge on one of them. I could just upload a LIFT file like I had pulled it from FLEx or WeSay, but it seems like I would be losing revision history in doing that.  Is there any way to import a mercurial repository which is already in use, into languageforge? I guess this question would apply to languagedepot, or to a WeSay project with history (pardon me if I've misunderstood the lf.org website; it looks like you import a LIFT file, and start a new revision history).

Kent

Hi Kent,

We are currently working on implementing Send/Receive for LanguageForge, so that you will be able to send and receive your projects to LanguageDepot (and, therefore, be able to have FLEx users and LF users collaborate on the same project). We hope to have it ready to use soon -- although in software development, "soon" can mean anything from "later this month" to "before the end of the year". That will work just like the Send/Receive feature in FLEx, except that in FLEx, the Mercurial repository resides on your local computer, while in the LanguageForge Send/Receive feature, the Mercurial repository will reside on the LF server.

One note: we do not have a good way to take existing LF projects and add the Send/Receive feature to them, because existing LF projects do not have a Mercurial repository attached. To use Send/Receive with LanguageForge, you will need to create a new LF project as a clone from a LanguageDepot project; then the LF project will have a Mercurial repository, and be able to participate in Send/Receive.

We will be happy to let you know when the Send/Receive feature is ready to use.

In Him,

Robin Munn

I toyed with this some today, after I noted that you could upload an archive, not just a lift file. So I uploaded my whole mercurial repository. Not sure what I'll be able to do with that, though. Maybe nothing until you get this send/receive thing going anyway. I wonder if the project even knows it has a mercurial repo...
Frankly, this is a rather hypothetical foray into LF for me; most of my collaborators don't have internet, so I'm not sure how useful it will be. But I'll keep trying it out from time to time, and we'll see.
In any case, thanks for your work. LF looks like a good product, and I'm sure it will help a lot of people.

Grace,

Kent
