Dear Language Forge Users,

Our development team has worked hard to make Language Forge an useful and easy to use product for a wide range of users. We are committed to engaging and working with you to improve the application and meet your project needs for dictionary development on the web. Several of you have tried out the beta Send/Receive feature with FLEx and have given us good feedback and helped us find and fix bugs. Thank you!

Unfortunately, I also have the responsibility to inform you that on January 23rd our Language Forge server suffered a catastrophic crash. While we have rebuilt the server and necessary infrastructure, we discovered at the same time that our backup processes also failed following server upgrades, and the last successful backup was on November 7th, 2016. It’s an incredibly hard thing for us to realize that our efforts to provide you with a reliable service weren’t enough, and for this we are extremely sorry. If you used Language Forge between November 7th and today, it is likely that some work was lost. If you have been testing Send/Receive with FLEx, then it is likely you will not be impacted.

We are now working to put in place additional measures to ensure that our backup processes are more robust and this type of situation will not happen in the future. Despite these hard lessons learned, we are committed to providing a reliable and valuable dictionary development service in Language Forge.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have questions.

Serving together,

Christopher Hirt

Oh dear. I am so sorry to hear about the loss. I sympathise completely and yet, I hope this does in God’s grace lead to more protection and greater safety in the future. It’s a horrible lesson to learn. Thanks for letting us know.

David
