Hi!

The language project that I'm currently working on does not use Language Depot (yet). I put the data on LF using an exported LIFT folder from FLEx. The main reason I put the data on LF is because we don't have Language Depot set up yet and because I only need very simple data manipulation (simple English glosses), but I want someone else to be able to work on this remotely. We can go the route of using FLEx, but I thought realtime editing might be nice.

I can't seem to figure out how to export the data as a LIFT file from LF. Is that possible, or not yet?

Additionally, when I uploaded the project, each word contained a linked audio file. Those don't appear to have been uploaded with the rest of the project. Perhaps I uploaded the project incorrectly?

Thanks,

Andrew

Hi Andrew

Thanks for your interest in Language Forge.

Since we now have the feature that lets you synchronize data with FLEx using the send/receive feature with Language Depot, we don't have any current plans to offer LIFT export. Your best avenue is to get your FLEx project onto Language Depot (if you don't already have an account get started here https://public.languagedepot.org/account/register). Then you can pull the project into Language Forge and keep it synchronized with your FLEx project through Language Depot. Contact me off group if you need help with getting that setup.

For your audio data, Language Forge only currently supports audio writing systems. If your audio data is in an audio writing system it should show up. If its in another field like Pronunciation then it won't show. Which fields contain audio data in your FLEx project?

Regards, Ira

Hi Ira

Reading through this email between you and Andrew, I went and took a look for myself, since one of the reasons keeping me from using Language Forge more was related to this issue.

So I looked, but I didn't see a "send/receive feature with Language Depot" as you mentioned.  All I see is an option to import a LIFT file.

Am I missing something?

Thank you,

Hi Jarrette

Thanks for your interest in Language Forge.

Currently, the "send/receive feature with Language Depot" works when you create a new project on Language Forge. It doesn't work yet if you have an existing project created from scratch or from imported LIFT data. If you already have your data in FLEx and have that sending to Language Depot (using FLEx's Send/Receive feature) you can get started right away.
  1. Login to Language Forge.
  2. Click My Projects, then select List All Projects.
  3. Click Start or Join a New Project, then click Dictionary.
  4. Click Get project from LanguageDepot.org.
  5. Type your Language Depot username and password.
  6. Select the Language Depot project (you must be the manager of that project on Language Depot).
  7. Click Get Started.
Blessings, Ira
