Det vart noko rot med den første oppdateringa av programmet! Her kjem den på ordentleg (med nokre aller siste modifikasjonar etter råd frå Trine og Eivind).

Sustainable agricultural investments?

In the latest years there has been an enormous increase in land investments. Wealthy countries and multinational companies invest in agricultural land in many poorer countries in order to provide income and food for their own populations. This has often happened at the expence of the local population.

 

Spire Ås invites to a seminar the 26th of September at 19:00. The event will be held at UMB, Sørhellinga room 119.

 

 

After the seminar there will be served cake :D

 

 

In the panel there will be 3 participants who will share their different opinions on sustainable agricultural investments, followed by a discussion involving the audience. 

 

- Aksel Nærstad: Senior Political Advisor of the Development Fund.

  He will talk about how agricultural investments can become more sustainable and take more into account the local farmers.

 

- Øystein Botillen: Manager of Global Initiatives in Yara

He will talk about Africa and what Yara does for the development of agriculture there.

 

- Poul Wisborg: Professor in International Environment and Development Studies at Noragric, UMB.

He will introduce the term "land grab" as a way of explaning what these types of agricultural investments can lead to.
