Apprenticeship 2012

Community Farm is a 5-acre farm that grows diversified organic
vegetables and flowers in Milton, MA. We run a 200-member CSA, attend
two weekly farmer’s markets, and donate produce to local food

About the Apprenticeship
Our farm apprenticeship runs full-time from April 2 – November 4th,
with possibilities of staying longer for part-time work. The work
schedule generally runs from Tuesday through Saturday and the hours
per week are variable throughout the season, our hours in the summer
are typically 7am – 5pm with and hour for lunch.
Apprentices will learn many aspects on operating a non-profit
community farm through various hands-on tasks such as greenhouse work,
tractor work, harvesting, distributing and marketing produce, and
working directly with CSA members, community volunteers, and youth.
Throughout the growing season, apprentices will work closely alongside
the farm managers through frequent check-in meetings and discussions
about best farm management practices and strategies.
Apprentices will have the opportunity to learn outside of the farm
from other farmers in the area through CRAFT (Collaborative Regional
Alliance for Farmer Training) gatherings. These events are great
opportunities for both experienced and novice farmers to exchange
knowledge with each other. For more information about CRAFT, please

Additionally, NOFA (Northeast Organic Farming Association) holds
frequent workshops and an annual summer farmer’s conference that we

Qualifications
Previous farming experience is not required but helpful. We seek
individuals that have a strong interest in agriculture, are willing to
work hard, eager to learn, open-minded, reliable, responsible, and
have a good sense of humor. Enthusiastic about food justice, eating
and cooking, and working with volunteers and youth are a plus. You
must be able to clearly follow directions, not be afraid to ask
questions, be able to work and communicate well with others, be in
good physical condition, and be able to lift 50 lbs.
Compensation
Apprentices are paid $400 per week, produce from the farm, and
discounts on off-farm products such as eggs and fruit. There will be
one paid vacation week
Housing
There is no housing available on the farm, but we may be able provide
assistance in finding accommodations.
