The USDA Forest Service, Northern Research Station (https://www.nrs.fs.usda.gov/) will soon be advertising for a permanent, full-time Ecologist (GS-0408-9/11) position located in Rhinelander, Wisconsin.
The successful candidate will be a member of an interdisciplinary team of quantitative and landscape geneticists, forest and landscape ecologists, and spatial modelers to advance knowledge that relates ecological changes across scales and disturbance gradients to better integrate science with landscape-scale restoration and contemporary conservation challenges.
We are seeking candidates with a well-rounded background in spatial ecology to conduct and lead fieldwork, complete spatial and quantitative data analyses on a variety of topics including landscape genetics (e.g., eDNA data), and conduct spatial modeling in support of spatial ecology research.
Primary responsibilities will include:
· Assist scientists in study conception, study design, writing study plans, and conducting field work
· Analyze data using advanced geospatial and statistical techniques such as species distribution models, resource selection functions, connectivity models, Bayesian statistics, Random forest.
· Collaborate with scientists to calibrate, align, regulate, and substantiate spatial models, specifically LANDIS-II forest landscape model.
· Participate and coauthor scientific research in peer-reviewed publications
· Be willing to participate in statistical and modeling training when needed.
