Hi all
I bought a short motor NOS last year. Now I am taking it apart to clean and possibly home due to surface rust on the cylinders. My problem is that the main bearing cap nuts and the big end bearing caps have no washers or locking tabs. Is this a normal variant? There is no room on the studs for washers or locking tabs.

Hi,

It has been a long time since I have done an engine but the answer is yes, there should be washer-tabs on at least the main bearings.
By the photo it looks like a later engine, so unlikely on the conrod ends, bearings.
The part number for the main bearings washer-tab was 12H1063 plus a plain washer MYH184.
There were two types of conrod assemblies:
12H1019 which has the rod caps on an angle and had a washer-Tab (6K881)
12H2444 is the one you appear to have with the rod caps in a straight line with the conrod.  This later style of conrod did not have a washer-tab.
But I think these had lock nuts which was part number 13H5872.  This took place on engines 18YD/Ta/H4470, 18YE/Rc/H9914, 18YF/Ta/H2484 on.

Regards

Ian

Hi all,

My personal situation has decayed and the X is doing the usual court and
property stuff.
As usual it is vindictive. So to save a Ute I have to sell it.
This ute was a regular drive until sometime after the time Robert
Goodall moved to NZ, I cant remember the date but can remember the time.
As Robert had totally rebuilt the auto and put the car back together
again just before he left. I also had the brakes totally over hauled by
the Brakes Plus on Nepean Hwy Moorabbin. The auto rebuild was close to
$1800 all up I think and the brakes cost $1350.
Anyway my X has tried to claim the ute is rare and a classic worth about
$10,000, an independent assessor found it hard to value but conceded it
was rare and that in good condition would be worth $10,000 plus but in
its current condition he put $4,000 on it.
I am selling it for $2,500 complete with hoops and original tarp.
It has rust in the lip of the bonnet, it has deep rust on the passenger
side inside ute wall, it has surface rust, the tray is in good shape
with surface rust, surface rust where paint is cracking or peeling, bad
rust in bottom corners of pass door, no dings or signs of any accidents,
side panels all in good shape, rear indicators etc ok, all bumpers in
place, rear tail gate useable and in better shape then I expected and
car is basically all original with bench seat in red. The car was white
but is now green. There is patched up rust in the floor that has been
fixed and painted before i got it.
I intended to replace the floor, have all the rust removed and have the
car resprayed. Quote was $4,500-$6,000.
The ute has not been started or run for a long time, years. It blew no
smoke and it ran well to the day i parked it at the back of my old home
with intentions to start work that never happened all those years ago.

I also have a Austin 1800 MK1 Ute. Complete body, some rust, damage
around the jacking point below the drivers door. As is $700
ANYONE INTERESTED?

Regards

Ian
