Hi all

We went out on a day's trip with a group of Variety Bashers a couple
of weeks ago and unfortunately hit a pothole on a four wheel track. We
blew a front displacer, (blew the back right out).
Today was the first opportunity to replace it. Having a brand new
displacer (Ebay) we thought the job was going to be easy. We removed
the centre studs on the pillar and removed the damaged displacer after
a little trouble undoing the connection.
However when we replaced the displacer with the new one, there was an
inch gap between the connectors. The hose on the new displacer is
about .5cm shorter than the original one. Also the part where the hose
attaches to the displacer is quite concave, adding to the problem.

The question is, do we get an adaptor to fill the gap, or stretch the
hose and release the steel pipe to make it fit? Or something else?

This is the first time we have had to replace a displacer so we are
gaining knowledge all the time. Any ideas?

Geoff,

Have experienced similar situation on our car. All I did was to loosen
the clamp on the metal pipe to let it come over further to connect the
displacer. Once the system starts pressurising the displacer hose should
expand and things should start to fit back in place. The main thing to
watch for is that when fully pressurised the rubber hose has room to
move around in the square apeture and isn't hard up against the metal edge.

You should also be aware this LANDCRAB discussion group is now inactive
as we lost the Moderator a few years ago and everyone has now moved over
to the AUSTIN1800 google group.

Cheers,

Hi,

Have an Austin 1800 Mk 2 Auto Ute for sale

Had the auto rebuilt by Rob Goodall, brakes rebuilt by brakes plus,
drove it for about another 200km after that and then parked it at the
back of the house with the intention of doing it up. At the time it was
running, registered and Road Worthy, then along came baby number 2 and
time flys as it has now been sitting for 5 years or so and not been
driven or started and I let the rego lapse.

It has some surface rust, rust on the front bonnet lip and some rust in
the floor pan and the paint is very average. It is basically all
original with bench seats etc. It needs a good clean, some work, a tidy
up and tune. Fixing her up and making her smick is not a big job.
Offers considered contact me at icom...@bigpond.net.au

Regards

Ian
