to Lancaster AGO
Dear fellow organists et al,
My face is red!! I agreed to try to help our good friend Margaret Marsch, chair of tomorrow night’s carols and organ program at Lititz Church of the Brethren, by doing publicity for the event to the various local dailies and weeklies. As it turns out, the only dailies that pertain are the LNP newspaper in Lancaster and the Lititz Daly News, an on-line-only organ whose readership is absolutely unknown to me. All the other places to send a press-release involved weekly papers, many of them published by Engle Printing & Publishing Co as in-your-mailbox advertising organs with news added.
Sadly enough, I erred in a number of those press releases by mis-stating the starting time tomorrow night as 7:30 p.m. instead of 7:00 p.m. I just don’t know what I was thinking. Well, obviously, I wasn’t! Let me first apologize, especially to Margaret and to our good sub-dean Frank Dodd, but also to everyone else involved. Is this a sign of old age, or what?
I did seek a correction in the LNP, and I’ve been promised such a correction in tomorrow morning’s issue, for which I did thank the newspaper folks greatly. If they blame me in public for the error, I guess I do deserve that.
Equally important here: to whatever extent you have on-line contact with your choir folks or other church people and you think it is not an undue intrusion into their lives and computers, would you kindly be willing to send those persons whatever sort of correction you see fit about this program of our chapter tomorrow night?
At least, the good news here is that direct contacts from each of us on the chapter program committee to the various retirement communities in the area do state the correct time, including what I sent out. We might hope that from such places will come a significant number of our audience folks.
Finally, please do not misconstrue my absence tomorrow night as a sign of my embarrassment, though I surely AM embarrassed! I’m being Daddy and Grandpa this week with family we almost never see except for a few days at Christmas time and a some days or a week during the summer. So my absence, including as a player, reflects my sense that I need to attend to my family on this count more than to be there and to play tomorrow night. Indeed, initially the family plans had been that we would go to Florida, where our younger daughter and family live, but the wish for our grandson to be able for the first time in life to play in the snow caused them to come to Lancaster the day after Christmas. Well, no snow. :-(
Please forgive me for my error.
All the best to you in 2017.
Karl
