I’m looking for information about Mary Jane Hammond (1878 – 1964) – b. ? – d.
January 23, 1964, Hillingdon Nursing Home, St. Albans.
She
was the composer of the fine hymn tune “Spiritus Vitae” to which we will be singing ‘O Breath of Life, come sweeping through me’ this Sunday.
The
Mission Group have chosen it (Bully for them) to include in a service featuring women who made their mark in the bible. I thought I’d add something about the ladies’ contribution, music-wise; and have ‘distaff’ voluntaries.
MJH
is missing from the search I’ve made.
Can
anyone else help ?

[a.k.a.
a musicman who can often tell him from her on the piano keyboard .. but finds a similar distinction on the organ far harder to detect.
Do you ?]
