River Ribble and Brockholes (Approximately 10 miles with minimal ascent)
Meet for coffee from 9.45am at McDonalds in the Capitol Centre, Walton-le-Dale, Preston (PR5 4AW) or at the carpark on the north side of Walton Bridge (PR2 5AX) at 10.30am to start the walk. If you are coming from central Preston on the A6 turn left just after a pelican crossing about 30 m before the bridge and follow the lane down by the side of a derelict pub for 50 metres or so. From the east turn right just after crossing the bridge.
The plan is to walk on the North side of the river along the Ribble Way to Brockholes Nature Reserve. After a walk round Brockholes we will return on the south side of the Ribble. We will pass close to the car park before continuing on the river path to the old railway bridge and back on the north side of the river to the cars. The end loop can be missed, saving about 3 km. There are good paths most of the way, though some grass paths. We will probably go to the White Bull in Walton-le-Dale for a drink after the walk.
