Greetings:
It has been a busy year. We have produced
a new web page to show you what we have been up to. As always, our interest is to find ways to minimize human impacts on the Earth while maximizing the enjoyment we can get from life.
But first an interesting detail about the length of days:
Illustrated as an analemma, we can ponder how it is that the afternoons start getting longer after December 10th. Very slowly at first, not as fast as the mornings continue to get shorter, but enough to set our imaginations looking toward longer days.
Meanwhile this Summer and Fall:
We rebuilt the yurt in the interest of offering Bed and Breakfast next year so people can enjoy the natural wonders of this place. In addition, if they want, we can share some of the stories and ideas about a world we might build to serve the children and grandchildren.
In addition to being a water reservoir, the pond extension will make it easier to cool down on hot days and to swim,
The root cellar is state of the art refrigeration. It will require zero additional energy to store food through the Winter and into the heat of Summer.
Pictures and descriptions of these projects are posted at:
We hope you enjoy the link and that next year will offer more opportunities to get together.
Looking forward,
Yours, Mike & Claire

Summoning the new order.
Shifting from perpetual expansion to a steady state, requires vision. The essential shift is described at:
www.sustainwellbeing.net/Getting-From-Here-to-There.html“More Fun, Less Stuff” is a flag.
It is memorable and it is something that anyone can do, now, to help ease the climate crisis. While it is a simple phrase, it is a thin edged wedge that can introduce the difference between economics aiming to serve people and ecosystems and economics that serve of money.
Help get these words out to where people can see and hear them. The more people who recognize this meme the sooner the new civil form will be seen as an alternative to growing until we drop.
To aid this effort, we offer bumper stickers. We’d be happy to mail one or more for free, if you have good places to display them. Your help getting this meme out where people can see it is the point of this project.
Just send your mailing address to:
sust...@web.ca.
While not necessary, we’d be happy if you were to cover the $5 cost of a sticker, envelope and postage.
Donations beyond basic costs are also welcome as they help us continue to send out free stickers and to maintain the office equipment and other expenses that sustain this 7th Generation Initiative.
Memes guide cultural evolution in a similar way to how genes guide biological evolution. By establishing "More Fun, Less Stuff" in the collective consciousness, we will take a step away from planetary overshoot and toward sustainability.
