Dear neighbors and friends,
Many of you may have heard the news today that Lambuth University is planning to sell 33 off campus properties it owns. While we can only speculate the plans Dr Israel has for university, but we can reasonably consider the effect this sale will have on the Lambuth area. I am sure this decision was made with great deliberation and consideration by the Lambuth University board and Dr. Israel, because I can not imagine they would contribute to the erosion of our community by selling these properties to people with histories of poor property management.
While the university is believed to have several offers for the properties one known suitor is the Community Redevelopment Agency or CRA. The CRA was recently formed by the City of Jackson to assist in the revitalization of a TIFF district that includes the Lambuth area. These properties fit well into that plan as the CRA will renovate these properties to standards above the minimum housing standards now set by the city. Also as current rental agreements expire, the CRA will sell the houses to owner occupants. I believe this is the best option available concerning these properties to benefit Lambuth University, the Lambuth neighborhood and the City of Jackson.
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter and being involved in the positive direction and growth of our city.
Sincerely,
Scott Parish
President
