My fellow neighbors and friends,
It appears Lambuth University has made a decision who they would like to sell the 33 off campus properties they own. Their decision had been narrowed to Mr. Jon Ellis and the CRA. I talked with Mr. Ellis yesterday. He was not able to discuss this situation in any greater detail at this time but did seem satisfied with the progression of events.
Thursday morning at 9 am the city council will meet at City Hall to vote on the appropriation of funds to the CRA to buy the 33 properties. While I am not always in favor of government funds being spent on projects that can be managed by private industry I do believe these properties will fit well into the scope of the CRA and the revitalization of the midtown area. Keep in mind these properties will be sold to individuals for occupancy by the buyers after they are restored above the standards set by the city codes department and the current lease agreements expire.
I would like to encourage whoever can attend this meeting to be present and show their support of the CRA in this endeavor. It is always important for us to question our officials to ensure they are representing our best interests and their responsibility to question projects brought before them to the same end. Our city councilmen that have inquiries about the purchase of these properties are doing exactly what we elected them to do, but they can only know they have our support in moving forward if we tell them. Your attendance will show that support.
Thank you for supporting the growth and revitalization of our beautiful city.
Sincerely,
Scott Parish
