CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION DIVISION
JACKSON POLICE DEPARTMENT
PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DATE: April 13, 2009
BY: Chief Richard S. Staples

On April 13, 2009, there were two separate reports made to the
Jackson Police Department of a suspicious man who was reportedly
trying to coax two 9-year-old girls into his van in different incidents.
The first incident occurred around 4:00 p.m. on Derbyshire off of
University Parkway when he first drove up to a driveway where a girl
was playing and made some untoward comments to her then tried to
coax her to get into his van. The girl alerted a family member who
saw the suspect and vehicle.
The second incident occurred about 5:00 p.m. on Harvest Cove near
the intersection of Old Humboldt Rd and Moize Cutoff Road when he
approached another girl who was in a neighbors yard. He told her to
get in the van but she fled to her house.
The suspect is described as a white man in an older model dark
green minivan that was missing some or all of it’s hubcaps and had
Tennessee license but the number is not available. One witness
reported there was some damage to the front of the van.
The suspect was described as a white male in his late 20’s to early
30’s with short brown hair and bloodshot eyes. He acted as though
he was intoxicated or otherwise under the influence.
The Jackson Police Department is seeking this man for questioning in
connection with these apparent attempted abductions. Anyone with
information, please contact the Violent Crimes Unit at the Police
Department at 425-8400 or Crime Stoppers at 424-847
