A lot has happened in the last 2 weeks.
We made a prototype of the railing for the porch at 192 Union and
decided the spindles could be legelally spaced a little more apart, so
we made the first section. Each section has to be custom made because
no two posts are the same distance apart. We will hang it this weekend
and start another section. It takes two MEN to handle a section
because it is so heavy.
All the old siding has been removed and repairs have been made to the
origional lap siding at 216 W Deaderick. The front and wast walls have
been scraped, power washed (gentley) and primed. The east wall is
ready to wash and then prime. After everything is primed, then we will
paint the entire house in one session. The gable end is not repaired,
but the access hole is covered. We still need in the attic crawl space
for wiring and hvac at a later date. As with old houses, you never
know what you will see next. This house has no attic access from
inside or outside that we have found. The area is very small and not
very high, but there was overhead wiring, so someone had to be up
there sometime!
I had to remove some siding from 203 W Deaderick, on the very back
part that is waiting Historic Zoning Review for demolition and
rebuilding. The back one story part is a series of open porches that
were closed in, add another porch, close it in etc until there are now
eight areas or rooms involved. There were no foundations under these
areas and the roof is a bunch of jumbled angles. We will build back
the same footprint, but hopefully the Board will approve everything.
We needed the siding boards to make the repairs at 216. The Zoning
Board does not meet until September, but we will move to scraping and
painting here on the origional two story part as soon as 216 is
finished. Painting and some porch repairs are all we can do until the
review is approved.
I have to make elevation drawings of the new construction for the
Board. Since it is raining today and I can not work outside, I think
that would be a good use of my time. Of course I could wash 216, you
get completely soaked with the power washer anyway! An unnamed city
offical told me this morning that I should take advantage of the
weather and go home and take a nap. I must have looked really bad.
Sounds so good, maybe I can get a 15 minute power nap this afternoon.
I will post a new update next week after we go back to court.
