Registration for Insider Connected is free; players can either scan a QR code at the games or go to the Stern Pinball website where they will need to enter an email address and create a password. Once players register for Insider Connected, they are issued a unique QR Code that can be used to identify that player at any connected Stern pinball machine, anywhere in the world. When a player logs into the machine, they can track their progress, earn new game specific achievements, engage with the player community and participate in promotions and Challenge Quests.
Challenge Quests can be issued by operators to drive play at their locations and build player loyalty or by Stern Pinball to highlight a game title or engage the community. When players complete quests, they receive loyalty rewards.
All Stern Spike 2 LCD games produced after the September launch will ship with the Insider Connected system installed; this includes new runs of previously released titles. Any existing Stern LCD game can be added to Insider Connected by installing a simple, inexpensive retrofit kit available from Stern distributors, dealers and the Stern Store.
By the end of the year, all 17 Stern Spike 2 LCD system titles will be added to Insider Connected. At launch seven titles will be supported. Over the next year the full system with added features will be rolled out.
Suggestion: turn on Password AutoFill on the password field on the registration page of your iOS app, so my phone can generate a strong password for me right when registering (I see it is on on the login page).
Have you considered adding a coin switch output? I know handling payments comes with its own regulatory can of worms, but it could be a way for operators to bring in some revenue while people are using less and less cash.
Yes, we definitely are working in that direction. We think that COVID definitely shut down a lot of public venue traffic, and that it was a bit less of a priority to our customers for 2020 than it had been originally. That being said, digital payments is definitely on our roadmap and we need to hear what operators need most!
I typically would have a bank of 3 games in a round with only one being a DMD or LCD game. Would it be best to just have these hooked to those games only as the camera can easily see the scores for the SS and EMs at all times?
The device works on solid states, all DMDs and most LCDs. Right now, it works on early Bally and Sterns, and we will release support for other solid states in the future. What keeps you from moving it from machine to machine easily is that each Scorbitron is bundled with specific power boards and data interface probes for a particular manufacturer.
Yes, what ScorbitVision Streamboards do is allow you to customize all of that, so you can incorporate a window (or integrate into an existing window) the current scores of games. Yes, the DMD and LCD games will show the score for all players at all times.
Game owners will be able to add their machine to the Scorbit platform and enable instant score submissions, tracking of game modes and enable display of game data to ScorbitVision, the platform for scoreboards, leaderboards and livestream tools provided by Scorbit.
This release is the first step of this collaboration between Scorbit and Jersey Jack Pinball, one of the most innovative pinball manufacturers in the business. Scorbit plans to release many more features over time with Jersey Jack Pinball and we are very excited for what this means for the future of the pinball community.
Looking back, it was my experience as the executive producer of an XBOX and PlayStation development team, back when Microsoft and Sony were launching XBOX Live and PSN, that influenced my thinking. Connecting those games transformed the way we play and interact. When I started thinking about connecting pinball machines, the direction was clear to me.
We now have a whole suite of tools that allows us to create new games within the system to focus attention on a particular title. And, of course, operators get very similar tools they can use to drive loyalty at their locations, mine the data in their games, analyze trends, adjust the pinballs and help maintain them.
It starts with a player using his phone to scan a QR code printed on a game. This will take them right to the sign-up page where they create a free Insider Connected account. They can also sign up on the Stern Pinball website using an email address and a password. Once they have an account, they can log in from anywhere and access a unique QR code that identifies them.
We will have special awards, which are random drops of cool stuff. These might be physical things like a t-shirt, collectible action figures or other goodies from our universe. Down the road, we will have giveaways like discounts at the Stern Store or tickets to drawings for all kinds of things, even pinball machines.
Well to be clear, at launch, the feature set is limited. We will continue to roll stuff out over the course of the year. This month, only seven titles can be connected, but every month thereafter, we will add more features and titles to the universe of Insider Connected. By year-end, we expect to have 17 different games connected to the program.
Our existing Insider All-Access player loyalty program also joins the system. All-Access Connected is a subscription version of the experience, focused on providing additional player features along with behind-the-scenes development stuff, early access, special events and quests. In the future, we intend to create exclusive game extensions, such as special access to new modes or new rules and features to increase the All-Access Connected value.
Yes, it opens the door to partner promotions as I mentioned earlier. Since codes can be redeemed for play directly at the games, we can partner with brands with whom we share customers in ways that bring value to these brands, the operator and the player. An operator can also partner with the locations to create promotions unique to his business.
