Dear colleagues and friends,
We are pleased to invite you to submit abstracts for the 3rd International Symposium on Hydrothermal Carbonization, which will be held in Seoul, Korea on 3rd – 6th, November 2021. We recognize that this year is still full of uncertainty, but we have decided to go ahead with the in-person meeting in Seoul, Korea. We will be closely monitoring the pandemic situation to ensure that we can safely participate and comply with international travel restrictions. If necessary, we will inform you as soon as possible about any changes in dates made due to COVID-19.
The International
Symposium on Hydrothermal Carbonization (HTC) is a biennial conference
organized by researchers at institutes and
universities across the world to provide a platform for scientists, engineers,
researchers, and professionals to discuss the fundamentals, applications, and
policies in various areas and disciplines associated with hydrothermal
carbonization.
Continuing in the tradition of the previous successful international symposia in London 2017 (https://www.sems.qmul.ac.uk/events/htc2017/) and Berlin 2019 (www.dbfz.de/htc2019), practitioners and researchers from all over the world are invited to participate in the 3rd International HTC Symposium in Seoul, Korea.
Topics on hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) covered in the symposium include, but are not limited to:
- Fundamental aspects of HTC technology
Kinetic and thermodynamic modeling, advances in process and product understanding
- Innovative applications of HTC technology & products
Agricultural, material, or energetic use of biogenic residues, adsorption, remediation, nutrient recovery, and fuel production
- State-of-the-art in scaling-up and commercialization
Technical, economic, and legal framework for HTC processes and products, integration in process chains

The abstract submission deadline is March 31st, 2021.
Both oral and poster presentations are accepted. Please download and fill out the form that is provided on the website. Please mail the form to htc202...@gmail.com by the deadline. The publication of a special issue in a peer-reviewed scientific journal is planned after the conference.
