FYI: TVA's In Home Energy Evaluation

This information was sent to us by a LANA Neighbor and we thought it might be of help to not only LANA residents but also others in the Jackson community.

I live on Westwood Ave - please read the description below of a TVA Program that might interest you.

TVA's IHEE Program sounds like what you need. A TVA certified Energy Advisor comes to your house & performs a visual inspection - attic, crawl space/ basement, windows, HVAC system etc. We use a program called Real Home Analyzer or RHA which prints our a report for you.  The cost is $50.00 which is refunded if you spend that amount on recommended measures.

The Energy Advisor leaves you with a report listing ways to make your home more energy efficient as well as more comfortable - TVA rebates you the money spent up to $ 500.00.  Example: you have $ 1,000 worth of insulation blown into your attic, TVA sends you 1/2 of money spent up to $500.  So in this case you would get the $ 50.00 IHEE fee plus the $ 500.00 = check for $ 550 & your home will be more comfortable & energy efficient. I wouldn't go with attic fans as they use a lot of electricity & I imagine that you have very little or degraded insulation in your attic - we recommend an R-38 in attics. That's about 12" depending on if you use blown cellulose, blown fiberglass or batt insulation. If you have single pane windows or old metal double pane windows we will recommend they be replaced. Insulation, duct sealing & air sealing typically have a payback of just a few years where the payback on windows can be many years. We will recommend insulation, duct sealing, air sealing, a HVAC tune up at the minimum on every job. You just chose what you want to do.
