· The Liberty FFA won the district FFA Opening and Closing Team competition. Congratulations to team members and their advisors!· Denmark Elementary participated in the Sumdog contest, a statewide online math contest which went on for 10 days. Their students worked an average of 3154 math problems correctly over the 10 days. Denmark was the overall winner for the contest and won $750 of math software for the school. In addition, they also won a daily prize of $350 in math software. Congratulations to Denmark students and teachers for their hard work on this project!· Congratulations to South Side senior, Elizabeth Stanfield, who has been named a 2012 National Merit Scholarship Program finalist. She is the first South Side student to ever receive this prestigious honor.· The North Side High School Air Force JROTC unit has received the highest possible rating on their unit inspection. Their rating, “Exceeds Standards” was based on a four tier rating scale. This is the first time North Side has ever received this highest rating. Congratulations to AFJROTC Instructors Barron and Brown and cadets on this honor!· North Side’s JROTC Drill Team was named top drill team out of 11 schools from four states at a recent competition. Along with being the overall winners, they also won first in the Unarmed Regulation Team, Rifle Team, Inspection Team and Color Guard Team. They now carry the title “Best Drill Team in the South.” Congratulations to all these cadets!· Congratulations to Northeast Middle school students who recently brought home first place honors in five categories: Technology Bowl Written, Medical Technology, Promotional Design, Techno Talk, and Transportation Systems at the Technology Student Association (TSA) Regional Competition!· Liberty’s Jackson Area Robotics team recently participated in a Vex Robotics Regional Competition in Georgetown, KY. Their three teams placed 1st, 9th, and 20th out of 40 teams in the qualifying rounds. All three teams were in the quarter finals, two advanced to the semi-finals and one made it to the finals. Vex Robotics develops a new game for every year of competition and teams build their robots to best perform in that game’s challenges. Team sponsor Belinda Stone and team members are now preparing for their next competition in Mississippi in February.· North Side recently had 12 students who competed in the West TN Regional Health Occupations Students of American Leadership Conference. Eleven of those students placed and brought home ribbons. They will be competing at the state level in the TN State HOSA competition in Nashville.· Parkview Learning Center Principal Paul Thacker was recently elected President of the Tennessee Alternative Education Association. In his role as president of the association, Mr. Thacker will continue to help shape alternative education for the three grand divisions of the State of Tennessee. Congratulations to Mr. Thacker!!
