Dear climate activists,

In 2017 the government wasted £1bn on subsidising the burning of wood for electricity, which damages forests and biodiversity, pollutes communities and makes climate change worse.

The government recently changed the rules to effectively rule out future subsidy for imported wood pellets (the vast majority of UK biomass) sending a clear message that this is not part of the solution. We will be demanding they extend the logic to existing subsidies which cause the burning of millions of tonnes of forest and the release of millions of tonnes of uncounted and untaxed CO2 every year.

Very soon we will launch our Scrap Biomass Subsidies campaign. This campaign is winnable with good grass-roots support. So please get involved. More details on our website soon and...

Please come to a 'Biomassive planning meeting' on Wednesday 24 October 7-9pm at Friends House, 173 Euston Road (opp Euston Station) NW1 1BJ. We will be meeting in the ground floor corridor spaces. We may adjourn to a local hostelrie afterwards.

We are planning a public campaign launch and a Parliamentary event in early November, and we would love your ideas and energy to make these things happen. Suggestions so far include a talk by US campaigners from Drax's sourcing regions, showing the BURNED documentary https://burnedthemovie.com/, campaigning workshops, a public demo and a petition.

Please join us. Please register on the facebook event, invite your friends (and bring them).

Call 07958 635181 with any queries.
