I retried recompiling the game and failed.

First of all can somebody tell me where is the lambdarouge hosted, at
least the svn shown on google code shows wrong dates :-

They show dates of Aug 2009, that can't be good.

1.6.1 therein and music does not play, but that is something to see I
guess.

don't download the SVN code! It's outdated.
