Hi,
I was trying to install Docker on g4dnx4xlarge, which is a GPU instance.
Following the blog posted here original blog, I could not get it run.
The error I got is
“ Error: package: containerd.io -1.4.3-3.1.el7.x86_ 64 (docker-ce-stable)
Need: container SELinux > = 2:2.74
You can try adding the -- skip broken option to solve this problem
You can try: RPM - VA -- nofiles -- nodigest”

Could you please provide any hints here?

Thanks for any information you might provide.
Best,
Cassie

Hi Elfore,

Sorry for the delay in replying.

I am no longer working on Lambda Linux.

When I started Lambda Linux project, Amazon Linux (with Amazon Linux 1)
was leading in terms of their innovative approach towards building a
Fedora based rolling distribution. For that time, it was really quite
innovative. That is no longer the case with Amazon Linux 2.

If you are looking for an operating system to run containers and VM, I
would highly recommend considering NixOS.

As for your error, I think containerd.io RPM package is expecting to
find SELinux package as a runtime dependency, but your yum/dnf
repositories are not making that package available.

Best,
Rajiv

Hello Rajiv,
Thanks for your reply and detailed instructions. Good to know that you were in the team for Amazon Linux 1. Now this issue has been solved by following this document https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonECS/latest/developerguide/docker-basics.html.
Best,
Cassie

Hi Cassie,

Sorry once again for the delay in replying.

Just to clarify, I was not on AL1 team. Before starting Lambda Linux, I
did have past experience building Linux distributions from scratch.

I think I was the first to notice what innovations Amazon had done in
AL1. So I created Lambda Linux to be somewhat equivalent to what CentOS
was for RedHat.

As I said in my last mail, the entire space has moved on. I think in
future, we will all be using a functional deterministic OS - something
like NixOS or Guix. While the user-interface of these operating systems
is still not beginner friendly, the benefits are very significant and the
community momentum is there. So, its only a matter of time before the
flywheel starts spinning.

Best,
Rajiv
