Hi Ed;
We upgraded to 7.5 on December 12. We did run into some fairly severe problems. The reports from the system are generated by the SQL server, which is odd. Though I have decent display hardware in the Application Server, I put the minimum into the SQL box. This makes most of the reports come out with formatting issues. SSRS runs on the SQL side and is responsible for producing reports. We lost even the ability to generate bar codes.
All of the issues have been addressed with work arounds.
The Good:
· 7.5 is the best and most stable version of M2M I’ve worked with
· 7.5 is fast, literally triple the speed of 6.01 ( I put in a SERIOUS application server)
· The browse function of DevExpress (the framework of 7.5) is astoundingly powerful, browse is the killer app for 7.5, iterative search on any column, intelligent export to Excel, add and remove data on the fly.
· Export functions are well done
· I like the new interface, it is clean and functional
The Bad
· SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) sucks. Visual FoxPro had arguably the most powerful reporting system ever developed. It is gone and replaced by something that is clunky and awkward. You WILL move from a Rolls Royce to a Yugo in regard to reporting.
· If you use SFDC, you will be forced to version 7.0 which is simply a disaster, barely functional. This is not really M2M, but if you rely on SFDC for barcoding be aware that it has serious flaws. (We will move to SFM to address this)
Overall, I really like 7.5. If it had FoxPro reporting, I would love it.

Hi Brent,
Thank you very much for your feedback. It's a big decision for a small company like us, and so far Aptean has been lackluster in their confidence building. Many people troll them in the comments which is easy to do, but I am just looking for a balanced viewpoints as you have displayed.
I am curious, did you consider another package and end up going with the upgrade to avoid the heartache of a new system ?
Thanks again,
Ed

Brent,
If you don't mind me asking, what are the specs on that application server? Also, I'd be more than happy to buy you lunch if you have some time to discuss. We're had performance issues since moving to 7.5 and I'd love to get your thoughts.
Bill,
We recently also upgraded to 7.5 (November 2016) and also had some performance issues – but we think we resolved them by limiting memory usage for SQL and SRSS. SQL defaults to the max it can use (I think it’s 2TB) – we have 32GB in the server, so by going in and limiting SQL to 16GB, SRSS to 4GB – so leaving 12GB for the OS and M2M itself.
I would be interested in seeing whether we could pull together a another SoCal user group meeting one day soon. We get better information off other users on here rather than M2M to be honest.

Hi Bill, and group.
What I went with is a Dell R630. I used 4 Xeon E5-2637 CPU’s for a total of 32 threads. I put in 128GB of RAM. It is tied to a EqualLogic 6800 SAN for disk use and a separate SQL server.
I’m always open to a free lunch. J

Hi Chuck;
Great point. SQL must be restrained from using all RAM, or the OS will have none and performance will suffer.
Regards;
Brent
All,
We went from 6.01 to 7.5 in November.
I performed the upgrade myself after some testing. I couldn’t pay the huge fee for Aptean to do it. I did it twice on a test server to make sure it worked. Was not a big deal.
I had to get rid of all our XP machines, guess I needed to anyway.
We did go back on maintenance first of October. I was not told that Aptean would not support my upgrade, until I was way into it.
I like the new interface and am looking to improve performance (I appreciate the suggestions so far!).
SRSS is a pain to work with, but it is getting easier.
I appreciate the simplicity in getting data out to excel, and am trying to automate some reports (invoices to customers for example).
We use SFM and it is about as before.
We planned to move to IQMS, but found the daily transactions required were too cumbersome, compared to our experience in M2M. We are small (40 person) business also. It had great functionality and may still work, but we stopped the implementation when we could not get the outcomes we desired and were accustomed to. Costs of transition were racking up with no end in sight. That to me is the hidden cost of everything ERP.

Subject: [lam2musers] Former/Current M2M users....Upgrade or other System ??
Hello all and thanks for your comments about M2M - I have spent a few hours looking back at the old posts.

Brent,
By application server, do you mean you installed the Made2Manage Database Files and Made2Manage Server 7.5 on one machine, separate from the SQL server.
I had not thought of that before, sounds like it helps performance. I am in the process of adding RAM to the server, but splitting the roles may give me an even bigger boost?
Thanks,

We will be upgrading to 7.5 on a brand new Dell PowerEdge R730 with 128gb in February. M2M and SQL will be on the same box. Curious about the comments about VFP reporting being an issue. Most of our reporting is out of Excel so consequently we don't use many system reports. Exceptions would be AR invoice, PO's, and AR & AP Agings. Can we expect any issues with these? Also, any issues with upgrading SFM?
Also, after 18 years on M2M we will not be renewing maintenance. The yearly increases have gotten out of control and I suppose is due to so many of us not renewing. As a result I suppose that the support will decrease and future versions will drop off to nil, which is ok with me as we don't plan on upgrading again anyway and its been years since I used their help. Has anyone else dropped support and regretted it?
We’ve been off support for 2 years and have not regretted it yet. We have used DKM and Glen Tobey on occasion for a fraction of the cost of maintenance.
We have had serious issues since we upgraded to 7.5 everyone here calls it a downgrade.
I spoke with Pandu and he said he was coming out to a user’s group meeting in LA.
Can someone let me know where and when?
I must have missed the notice.
Thanks

Hi Bonnie;
Initially I think they were targeting Reinhold as the host; but after all the problems we’ve had with barcode posting, it probably will not be here.

I stand corrected, got this a few moments ago;
Our April user group meeting in Southern California will be April 20th in Azusa at Lindsey Mfg.
The last one filled up quickly, so if you are interested, get registered soon.
Here’s the info: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/m2m-los-angeles-area-user-group-tickets-32635405376
Tickets for a user group??????
Guess Bonnie & I are both off their list for this, but just signed us up on the list thanks to your link Brent.
Chuck
Bonnie,
We’ve also not been pleased with their 7.5 but hopefully things change this week – we just moved M2M over to a new server, and also upgraded to Windows 2012 server and SQL 2012 during this move. So, this is a fresh install of 7.5, not upgraded in place from 7.0.3, plus we increased to two processors and bumped from 32 GB of memory to 128GB in this new box. We installed SP6, and HF1 since that just came out on Friday during this move over the weekend.
Chuck
Well it will be very interesting to talk at the next meeting
