Now that we are well into 2010 I would be curious to know how many of
you out there have converted to V 6.0 and how it is working for you.
Did you use M2M services to do the upgrade or did you DIY?

We here are still on 5.6 SP2.

Fralock converted the last week of December 2009. We replaced the
network server and upgraded to SQL 2007 at the same time. M2M Tech
Services did the conversion.

One minor nuisance ---- if you're using FastForms, allow time to redo
the layouts for
every modified screen. M2M warns that this is likely, but we didn't
listen closely enough.
Nothing was "broken", but I had users fussing about "why is that field
only half-visible?"
[because M2M moved another field into part of the space.......]

We upgraded in June of last year. We did have a tech perform the upgrade and it did go smoothly. We are currently on 6.0 sp 3 but get more red box errors on 6.0 than on any other version. About half the time we get about 8 continuous errors just trying to exit the program. We also get 'database object is being used by someone else' when just trying to do simple tasks. My users are really fed up with M2M now, and as an administrator who has tried all their suggested work-arounds, I feel helpless. Hoping 6.01 will be a major improvement and they get out these bugs.

Has anyone else experienced these specific issues?'

Thanks!!

Hello

We get a lot of RBE's too.

The most frequent RBE has been "Error accessing printer spooler".
We've traced this to using the OLINK connection between screens
and reports.  You no longer get the report interface.  That's a problem
when you have PDF versions of reports and users who don't have
PDFWriter installed.  Windows can't find the PDF print queue and
passes an error back to the application.

My work-around [don't know if it is sanctioned by M2M, but it works]:
tell users the OLINK button is broken.  "Until we can get it fixed"......
you'll have to bring the report up thru the Transfer screen or the Report
Menu, and then select the single copy/layout you need.

We get some table locking conflicts in JOMAST and the subsidiary JO tables
[JOITEM, JODRTG, JODBOM, JOPEST, JOPACT].  These spin off
"UPDATE conflict" RBE's, but not reliabily so.  About once a week we'll
have a hard copy of the traveler and pick list in hand and be unable to bring
up the electronic record.  JOMAST is always missing.  Usually JODBOM and
JODRTG are missing as well [even though they had to exist in order to
print a pick list and traveler!].  JOPACT is still hanging around about 50%
of the time.  Odd factoid:  we have ECM control turned on and can find the
ADD and EDIT records for JOMAST, but there's nary a trace of intentional deletion.

Tell Consona.......cheap India labor doesn't mean quality.

Ok........I'll behave now.  ;)

As a rule any X.0 version is generally unstable.  The biggest reason Sales.  Many promises get made to prospects and in some cases the X.0 product gets sold and has to be delivered by x date or there is no sale so there is pressure to get the release out and as such bugs don't get fixed.   The second reason is not enough "quality" beta sites.  It's difficult to get customers who will test the software or run parallel.  The 3rd reason....lack of quality assurance testers.  In the M2M grand old days there use to be  18 plus testers, this is so not the case today.

You should see improvement with each continuous version but it may be more like version 6.5 before your satisfied.

Just curious,

Is there a reason why those people don't have a PDF writer installed
so you can work around that problem?

Hello

We believe in using a single version of one application program  to fill one role.
We really want to avoid subtle incompatibilities between users.  We're still
running WindowsXP, Office XP, under this "single standard" policy.

The "PDF writer" role in our system is assigned to Adobe Acrobat Professional.
Acrobat Pro isn't free, and most of our network users will never need to create
a PDF version of anything............      except when the M2M Report Parameters
Interface tries to cram "ALL COPIES" into every print job.

We're not interested in licensing additional software if the only function of
the software is to keep another program from throwing RBE's.
