Lalit Renu
and the highlights of the year for us:
2025 .........
Lalit turned 81, – and Renu 79. We continued, by the grace of the ALMIGHTY, to be in good health. Renu’s knees stabilised though there was occasional discomfort.
2025 was a special and exciting year for us and the Khannas – Shreya (26) wed Arsh (Mehta)(28 in Jan’25) on 21st January ’25, The wedding took place in Udaipur where the Khannas and Mehtas had taken over the Oberoi Udai Vilas and the Trident hotels for the event. It was a dream event with each function immaculately planned and executed. The Mehtas held the reception at the JW Marriott In Mumbai.
Shivin (30 in Jan’25) and Saira Shivin and Saira inaugurated their Art Salon " Kalakaar" in October. Kalakaar is conceived as an art salon rather than a traditional gallery - an intimate, lived-in space where art is experienced slowly and personally. It moves away from the formal white-cube model to encourage conversation, reflection, and a deeper emotional connection with the works. Our idea is to make art feel accessible and part of everyday life, welcoming seasoned collectors and first-time viewers with equal warmth.
Zubin (19 in Feb ’25) entered his sophomore (2nd) year in Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University, Pennsylvania, USA. During his mid-term break in October he spent a week with his childhood friend in Vancouver Canada; and travelled to Puerto Rico in the Thanksgiving holiday in November. He came home for his winter break mid-December.
Because of the travel and festivities of Shreya’s wedding, Renu was unable to host the annual pot-luck family picnic at HARMONY.
Priya’s (57) restoration studio continued to be busy. She continues to work on projects pan-India. With Shreya getting involved with her work on Mumbai, she has set up a studio in Mumbai in a prominent new building in Mahalakshmi.
Rajesh (58) played a key role in advancing India’s clean energy and semi-conductor ambitions. As a director of HIF he led initiatives to develop integrated green hydrogen-to-e-Methanol projects in Gujarat, Odisha and Vishakhapatnam. He collaborated with IIT Delhi and had a MoU Hitachi for a semiconductor facility in Gujarat,
Pran's (54) business with BonusHub picked up pace as they added ICICI, Axis, SBI, Fiserv and Mobikwik to the existing HDFC and Amex. 2026 is important for him as he needs to use all his persistence to grow each bank while ensuring the transactions on the existing banks continue to grow. The payments business is evolving daily and he and his team must do their best to maintain their position.
At IIT Delhi - Prof. Amit Gupta of the Mechanical Engineering Department, became the MEHRA CHAIR PROFESSOR on January 1. The Dr. P.L.Kapur and Mrs. Pushpa Kapur Memorial Award for post graduate students in Physics was awarded to two selected students. The Merit-cum-Means scholarship, for an engineering student at the IIT continued and is well established.
THE CLASS OF 66 CHAIR PROFESSOR, endowed with funds raised during the Golden Jubilee of the reunion of the class of 66, continued to be occupied by Prof Sreedevi Upadhyayula. The CHAIR awards the incumbent an Annual Research Grant of Rs. 4 lakhs.
NIRMAL PRIMARY SCHOOL worked with full strength - about 280 children in Nursery to Fifth. Pran’s efforts to conduct classes in English bore fruit and the results were seen during the Annual Day. The basket-ball court is a big draw. Pia supports him in the effort. The school has a music room, a computer room, a SKY lab, a library and a dance room. The teaching environment is good. New slides have been introduced and the play area with swings and slides is a big draw. Pran and Pia upgraded the stage, and plan to add new games in the coming year. The Annual Day was held on November 15. Results of the effort to introduce English were clearly visible in the performances.
Scholarships at The Doon School; the Convent of Jesus & Mary school; IIT Delhi; Need Based Scholarship to IIMA student designated the TRMF Scholar; merit-cum-means scholarship at IIMA; continue.
Renu published her book MY SCRIBBLES and released it at a well-attended function at home on 10th May. It is a culmination of months of scribbling her stories of amazing incidents, learnings, memories going back to her time at Rohtak road soon after partition, her children and grandchildren’s growing up years, charities she was involved with, the family Foundation, the School and the Medical Centre she and Lalit set up; her involvement in and contribution through Rotary and Inner Wheel. Each word hand written filled journals put away in a green box. The sorting of thousands of photographs and souvenirs. Finally, these were all unboxed and the Soul of Scribbles culminated into a beautifully documented Coffee Table Book she is happy with. An interesting and absorbing compilation of events that have shaped her life, impressing all who read the book.
Other than our travels to Mumbai for events related to Shreya’s wedding, Renu went to Goa with her sisters in February. She also went to Pune in the first week of August. Renu & Priya went to Georgia and Armenia in September; they went to Mumbai in October to celebrate Shreya’s first Karva Chauth (fasting for the health of her husband).
At the end of the year, we think of our family; our dear friends and well-wishers. While counting our blessings, we fold our hands and thank the ALMIGHTY that the family is well. We pray for happiness and peace for you in the New Year.
Renu & Lalit ............ 2026
