Lead Based Paint: As part of providing a safe space for the immigrant families that we house upstairs in an apartment, a Chicago City inspector was on site this week at the church. His purpose was to test the paint used in the apartment and other spaces on the floor where the family resides for lead content. While all the surfaces in the apartment tested negative for lead, some surfaces in the Sunday School classrooms and bathroom were determined to be painted with lead paint or have lead paint layers under the current paint. This is not surprising in a building of this age. We are working with the City and their certified contractors to rectify the situation as soon as possible. Until then, they require a letter to be posted on the door of the church.
Our Sunday School activites are not likely to involve contact with peeling, chipping, or cracking paint. Parents should take your child/ren to the bathroom BEFORE Sunday Schoool and supervise your children in the bathroom if using the upstairs bathroom. Sunday School teachers are not able to do so.
Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns, and we will keep you up to date with developments and remedies.
