Chair Lloyd Kumley opened the meeting of the Lakeside Freethinkers at 4:OO p.m. with a general welcome and a round of introductions. There were 13 attendees, including two guests (Gerry and Richard) and a new member, Charles Kirby.
Before moving to the main topic of the day, Lloyd gave a glowing report about the science student sponsored by our group, noting that her next tuition payment will be due in August.
In relation to the recent St Valentine's holiday, each member made a personal statement on "Why I love being an Atheist/Skeptic and embrace Rational thought". The responses were as varied as the number of people present..and proved to be a good way for group members to get to know each other better.
Many speakers expressed both positive (pro-secular) and negative (anti-religion) reasons for their stances.
Dab touched on the importance of voting to preserve our religious and other freedoms and encouraged members to attend the local "social issues" film fest during March which raises money for pro-democratic causes in the U.S.
Food & beverages were enjoyed by all....and the group dispersed at 6:00pm.
Respectfully Submitted,
Dab Steadman, Secretary
