Hello Lakeside Freethinkers!

At our October 16 meeting (about 4 - 5:45 PM on Zoom), we plan to celebrate Freethought Day with presentations by members about favorite Freethinkers and other appropriate topics. (See //en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freethought_Day for a chart of some possible topics). You are invited to speak for about 15 minutes, including discussion, but the amount of time available may change depending on how many want to speak. Please email me if you'd like to give a talk.

We'll start the program at about 4 PM Lakeside time.

Thanks, Lloyd Kumley, Chair

So far, Dab has offered to talk on the reason for Freethought Day and Lloyd has offered to speak about Frances Wright. There are many slots available.

I'll be talking about a freethinking feminist named Ernestine Rose...not a particularly well-known atheist, but someone who broke a lot of "barriers" in her day.  Way to go, Ernestine!!

I'd like to read an editorial and briefly discuss an author that has greatly influenced my life, Ursula Le Guin.

Good choice, Brad!   Le Guin was always a very popular and well-respected writer here in Oregon where she lived for many years.

fyi...Today is International Blasphemy Day, observed to coincide with the anniversary of the 2005 publication of satirical drawings of Muhammad in the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten, setting off a furor by Muslims.

I learned this fun fact on the Freedom from Religion Foundation website.  You can receive a "free thought of the day" by signing up at:

https://ffrf.org/freethought-of-the-day/

I hope you don't have too much in your life to blaspheme about!
