UPCOMING EVENTS AT LAKE MEAD NATIONAL RECREATION AREA SEPT 6 – NOV 11

BOULDER CITY, NEV. – The following events are happening at Lake Mead National Recreation Area Sept. 6 through Nov. 11.

50th Anniversary of the Wilderness Act Art Show, Sept 6

Discover the hidden beauty and grace of Southern Nevada’s wilderness areas through the lens and brush of Nevada artist and naturalist Sharon K. Schafer at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 6 at the Lake Mead Visitor Center. This entertaining multimedia program of music, stories and images, explores the stunning natural beauty of the region’s inspiring wildlands and provides viewers with a different perspective on the wilderness of Southern Nevada. Space is limited. Register by calling 702-293-8990.

Fee-free day, Sept 27

Entrance fees will be waived at Lake Mead National Recreation Area Sept. 27 for National Public Lands Day. Fees for camping, lake use or use of concessions still apply.

National Public Lands Day, Sept 27

C.A.S.T. for Kids, Oct 4

Nearly 40 children with disabilities will have the opportunity to enjoy a quality outdoor recreational experience through the sport of fishing at the annual C.A.S.T. for Kids event at Las Vegas Boat Harbor 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 4. INRONMAN 70.3 Silverman Triathlon, Oct 5

Around 2,600 athletes will race through Lake Mead National Recreation Area Oct. 5 during the INRONMAN 70.3 Silverman Triathlon. The swim portion of the race takes place at Boulder Beach. Then, athletes will bike along Lakeshore and Northshore roads. Visitors to Lake Mead may experience delays along Lakeshore and Northshore roads. Drivers should use caution when passing cyclists. Cyclists are reminded that they must bike in single file on the roadways. Cycling abreast is not permitted within Lake Mead NRA. Lake Mead 50th Anniversary Celebration, Oct 11

Commemorate Lake Mead’s 50th Anniversary at the annual Cottonwood Cove Eco Dive Oct. 11 by volunteering, exploring and celebrating. Volunteers will help beautify the marina area both on land and underwater from 9 a.m. to noon. Each volunteer will receive a T-shirt, free lunch and will be registered to win a variety of prizes. Visitors can also explore the many informational booths and ranger vehicles and vessels from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Registration will soon be available at http://www.getoutdoorsnevada.org/event-registration/.
