DEVELOPMENT CONCEPT PLANS FOR LAKE MOHAVE MARINAS COMPLETE

BOULDER CITY, Nevada – Lake Mead National Recreation Area’s Cottonwood Cove and Katherine Landing Development Concept Plan/Environmental Impact Statement was finalized and the notice of availability was published in the Federal Register Nov. 7.

Cottonwood Cove and Katherine Landing are two of the major developed areas on Lake Mohave. The plans for these two areas reevaluate the implementation strategies that were originally identified in 1986 and incorporate the concepts and carrying capacities that were approved in 2003. This document provides overall guidance for the future redevelopment of these areas for the next 20 to 25 years.

The plan addresses guidance for future commercial and public facilities, including shoreline and overnight facilities. It also provides an engineering plan for the management of flood waters.

At Katherine Landing under the selected alternative, the restaurant and store may be rehabilitated or replaced; new picnic and campground areas may be established and the trail system may be expanded. At Cottonwood Cove, the motel may be expanded; the campgrounds may be redeveloped and pedestrian paths may be established between developed areas.

The full plan is available online at http://parkplanning.nps.gov/ccandkldcp. It outlines all of the approved actions that are intended to enhance the visitor experience and park operations. It also includes maps; environmental impacts and consequences; and public input and coordination.
