ELDORADO CANYON ROAD OPEN FOR LABOR DAY WEEKEND

BOULDER CITY, Nevada – Eldorado Canyon Road, which leads to Nelson’s Landing on Lake Mohave, will re-open temporarily for Labor Day weekend. However, additional closures will occur over the next two months for full repairs.

The road was closed Aug. 4 after major storm damage washed away a large portion of pavement on the eastbound side. Crews evaluated the westbound lane and determined that it can be re-opened to traffic with safety precautions.

As only one lane is open in the damaged section, the speed limit has been reduced to 15 miles per hour, and eastbound traffic will have to stop and yield to westbound traffic before bypassing the damage.

The road is scheduled to open the afternoon of Aug. 27 and will remain open through Labor Day weekend. It will be temporarily closed Sept. 2-5 for pre-scheduled repairs to a bridge on the road.

The road will then re-open Sept. 6 and will remain open with one lane, until construction crews can fully rebuild the eastbound lane. During reconstruction, there will be temporary closures; however, the intent is to provide open access during weekends, when possible. The repairs are scheduled to be completed over the next two months.

During the closure, visitors can access Nelson’s Landing from the water or via Aztec Wash Road, an unpaved approved road that starts near the town of Nelson, Nevada. Four-wheel drive, high-clearance vehicles are recommended for those who travel down the backcountry road. Travel through the wash should be avoided when it’s raining or when rain is in the forecast.
