LAKE MEAD NATIONAL RECREATION AREA TO CELEBRATE 50 YEARS OCT 11, REID TO ATTEND EVENT
BOULDER CITY, Nevada – Lake Mead National Recreation Area is celebrating its 50th anniversary at Cottonwood Cove Oct. 11 with an eco-dive, cake celebration and award presentation.
WHEN
The volunteer eco-dive and cleanup is from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m Oct. 11. The cake cutting ceremony and award presentation with U.S. Sen. Harry Reid is at 1 p.m.

Activities
During the event, around 150 volunteers and certified divers will remove litter that has accumulated along the boat harbor, shoreline and below the docks at the marina. Over the past five cleanups at Cottonwood Cove, more than 21,000 pounds of debris have been collected.
Following the cleanup, Reid and Dickinson will celebrate the park’s anniversary with a cake cutting ceremony. Forever Resorts will also be presented with a National Park Service Environmental Achievement Award for Green Innovation for its efficient, low-impact floating Marina Service Building. The building is the world’s first floating building to receive Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification.
VOLUNTEER
The public is invited to volunteer in the eco-dive and beach cleanup. Each volunteer will receive a T-shirt, free lunch sponsored by Forever Resorts and will be registered to win a variety of prizes, including raft tours along the Black Canyon Water Trail, a three-day houseboat rental and a pontoon boat rental. Informational booths and ranger vehicles will also be on display.
Beach Cleanup: Individuals, families and groups are welcome to participate in the beach cleanup. Beach cleanup and registration begins at 8 a.m. with the event beginning at 9 a.m. Volunteers will be asked to cleanup around the boat harbor and shoreline. Eco-dive: Divers must show proof of current diving certification at registration. To register for the dive portion of the cleanup, please contact Greg Carter at Cottonwood Cove Resorts at (702) 297-1464 or gca...@foreverresorts.com. Registration begins at 7:30 am for divers with a briefing at 8:15 am.
TEMPORARY HARBOR CLOSURE
For the safety of the divers, the boat harbor to the south of the head walk will be closed from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. The harbor to the north of the head walk to the fuel dock will be closed from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The launch ramp will remain open.
