Looking for New Years Day plans? 2026 Polar Bear Plunge Jump into the new year with both feet! Every January 1st at 12 noon in Matthews Beach Park, thousands of people line up along the beach at Matthews Beach for the first dunk in the lake of the new year. We provide lifeguards at this FREE event to reduce injury, so come earn your courage badge (for those who get wet up to their necks) There will be a 11:45am plunge for adults/children or anyone needing a bit more space from the crowds. We will have warm drinks and fun festive characters to entertain you. Donations are accepted at this FREE community event. QR codes making donations much easier. Get there early or get dropped off as parking is limited.   More information Video Warning: Lifeguards are present to reduce injury but enter the water at your own risk.
