Wednesday night's race was race number 11 of the series. It was a gorgeous night, sunny 85 with the wind initially 5–6 miles an hour out of the southeast. Iko Iko on race committee (thanks to my brother Geoff for coming out with us and using his boat). 16 boats turned out with an I 5 course North Canoe & the Lake George Club southern Harbour marker. As typical this summer, once we got into the sequence, the wind got light for a challenging start for a lot of boats. At the first mark Stinger and woot! were way out front rounding 1 & 2 with Cut Loose in third place. At the leeward mark the wind continued to get light. Once again, Stinger and woot! just escaped the light wind and were able to extend their leads on the fleet with Uncle Ludwig rounding in third place, Cut Loose was a boat length back-and-forth. After the first five or six boats got around the leeward mark, the wind got very light and six or seven boats just died at the mark, like sailing in cement. As Stinger rounded the windward mark for a second time there were still boats at the leeward mark who had not rounded yet. At that point the RC decided to ease the pain and shorten the race to an I-4 finishing downwind. Stinger was first across the line at 57:08, followed by woot! at 59:31. Windfall was third at one 1:04:36. Cut Loose was fourth over the line and Uncle Ludwig was fifth. Knot on Call was sixth over the line but with corrected time finished in third place. Everyone had a great time at the LGC for a dinner and some beers in the grotto. Uncle Ludwig will be on race committee next week with six races to go.
