Oops - a little slow getting results of Race 10 out. Here's the write-up and results:
Another classic Wednesday night racing – At 5:30pm the lake was a mirror (no wind) ; team Stinger is RC. We go to the LGC to get the marks and as I walk down the dock, 6 of 6 skippers ask me if we can just cancel it and go to the bar. I said “we always race on Wednesday night” start working your way out because we will be doing something and the wind always comes up at 6pm for us. Well, they did not like that answer. At that point one of my RC crew asks me where are the race flags??? Bing…the light goes off in my head, I left all the flags Dave gave me last week at home. So this is starting out well. We grab the marks and set off. All the moored boats at the LGC were pointing to Log Bay (NE) so we go out and drop a mark there and move to the middle of the lake for the start. Well at 6:05 the wind starts to come out of the SE and with some velocity. The RC team decides to move West and make the course an I-2 course between North Canoe U3 and the south harbor marker at the LGC.
The race starts with a beautiful start with no one over. Cut Loose is first to the weather mark followed by Wind machine. Unfortunately, those boats must not of heard the course and they sailed off toward the first mark we set toward Log Bay (which after the start the RC removed). Cut Loose calls out on the radio “ where are we going?” RC informed them and they both came over to the LGC rounding pretty deep in 6th. First at the leeward mark was Woot the J/70. RC gets another call on the radio – “where is the finish?” and we call back “ I2”, the caller then informs the RC that , that would be an “I5” course, I told them I was not good with fractions (they were correct). As always the fleet split going up wind and sure enough Cut Loose was back in second at the top mark behind Woot. I am telling you all this because we were a little rusty at RC and missed our grumpy old Dave Dougal as RC.
Line honors went to team Woot on the J/70, and win goes to Cut Loose. But the big surprise was we had a new boat out for the first time – Team TIPSY J/22 Russell and Marina Merchant and Jon Moran, who came in second on corrected time. Congrats to them.
