While on cruse - there was a crackling noise behind me.  I am not sure if it was the fans or what - has any one experience that?

In general I find the Lak17b FES creaks allot - maybe a little paraffin is would help?

I've not noticed anything like that on mine - SN231. I did have some creaking in my canopy which was resolved with waxing. I've also noticed that when landing if my spoilers are somewhere between 1/2 and 3/4 deployed and I get a little uncoordinated that the spoiler fences vibrate and rattle enough to get my attention. Improved piloting and awareness of the potential has resolved that!

did you just use paraffin?

My spoilers vibrate as soon as they are opened - sounds like lots of fingers tapping on the wings.............. a little annoying.  Other than that I am very happy with mine - I am SN232 :) right behind you :)  - since this is brand new to me - I would love to communicate a little more and get your experience - there is lots to learn. :)  if you are willing to take some not so bright questions - let me know :)  bhanson  at savcon  dot com

I would be appreciative if you guys could share your Q&A work the group. I'm sure we all could learn.

Thanks,

For sure - I am new to LAK.....Flaps.....18m .....and  FES...............  so I didn't want to carry on a boring, simple Soaring 101 conversation and bore people :) LOL but I like to share.....  I have a Pegase101A which I love and am enjoying learning the LAK :) but I want to make the transition less bumpy and quicker :)

I did contact Luka and he thinks the noise may be the fans touching he housing........ may paln is to try to figure it out over the weekend... then I can report the findings.

I've noticed some creaking/cracking but chalked it up to a brand new ship.  Generally occurs when I pull up to slow quickly and catch some lift or when hitting some turbulence.

The Flight Manual notes that slips with dive brakes extended will cause noticeable vibration which is likely what Steven is experiencing... I  haven't done much slipping with the brakes out, but the one or two times I did, there was definitely vibration that I haven't experienced slipping in other gliders so far.

When I open the dive breaks at any speed I get a loud rattling sound - I was told that was normal, but maybe I need to check if something is lose.

I checked this on my last flight and definitely am not getting a rattling sound.  Yes some vibrations and noise while slipping with the brakes open, but otherwise no.

Well I finally got some time in my LAK17B FES - 7 flights and about 30 hours. Turns out the Crackling sound is just the wing root rubbing.

I flew a contest that was primarily Ridge Tasks - it made so much noise for so long that it became a non issue.
