IfI change brightness with Nvidia control manager, it works correctly but if I change it with Windows, it is reversed. Pushing Fn+F6 button increases brightness instead of decreasing. The same it is with windows adjust brightness settings.
I cant seem to find the brightness adjuster in my laptop after I reformatted it with windows 7 ROG Rampage(64 bit). My laptop is HP Pavilion dm4-1209tx. I also checked with the HP website and my drivers are all up to date. I also tried installing HP Quick Launch but was unable to do so probably because it is not supported by my OS. I've run out of ideas anymore. Any advice? Thanks!
I've had the same problem once. For me, the trouble maker was TeamViewer's mirror driver. Uninstalling the mirror driver fixed the problem for me and the brightness adjust controls started working again.
If you don't have TeamViewer on your computer, make sure you don't also have similar software (LogMeIn, RealVNC, etc.) that can install a monitor driver. To check if your computer's monitor is using one of these mirror drivers, do the following:
According to the official specifications, the laptop has switchable graphic cards. This means the computer actually got two different graphics cards: Intel HD Graphics and AMD Radeon HD 6370M. The first one is integrated into the CPU and is energy efficient; the second one is discrete (or dedicated) and is more powerful.
The system can let you choose which graphic card to use, while defaulting to the integrated one to prolong battery life. Switchable solutions are based on custom hardware, and require specific drivers provided by manufacturers in order to work as intended.
There are two ways to in-/ decrease the backlight of the display. One is by installing the HP Hotkey drivers, so you can use fn + whatever key it is on your laptop (sometimesF3 and F4, other times arrow up and arrow down.
I can't stand Microsoft flaws. And or driver issues for not getting along with Microsoft. Who knows but I have the same problem the brightness controls completely disappear and the screen defaults to very bright.
In device manager the quickest way I found was to simply disable your display adapters and enable them instantly. This reboots the drivers and brightness control will be back to normal. But for how long that's the problem. Changing drivers and all the mentioning of power settings is absolutely useless and I wish people that haven't experienced a cure for this would stop leading everyone around in circles. That is why I am writing this.
I have not found the cure it's pissing me off.I only found this quick reboot fix because I am a technician but I am not God. Nobody technically will address this problem but I would love to hear from someone who will propose a genuine fix but truthfully I don't think there is one which means the fix I came up with is probably mine and yours best idea.
I have a Macbook Pro mid 2012 with Nvidia GT 650M, bootcamp with Windows 10 64 bits version 1709. As soon as a Nvidia driver is installed brightness control does not work and I'm stuck on max brightness. Can Apple please fix this as my model is officially supported? Is there a fix I can apply manually? Thank you and best regards,
Hi Schmitozen, for me applying the registry above i can go from 0% to 100% without issues (trust me at 100% is very bright!!!).I don't know if it helps you but i have also installed the latest Nvidia drivers from the website for our Nvidia 650M and disabled the adaptive brightness in power control panel in windows 10.
I'll start by saying that I have the same specs as you, and the same problem. I tried everything short of uninstalling Windows 10 and trying a fresh partition. Only one thing has worked for me consistently, and it's a pain. If you boot into your Mac partition and open "Bootcamp Assistant," there's an option in a menubar to "Download Windows Support Software." Once you've got the folder, load it onto an external disk and boot up Windows. You'll have to install the software by opening the "Setup.exe" file within one of the folders. It will solve the problem temporarily, but I've been having my Windows brightness control reset every boot. So each time I switch from PC to Mac and then back, it's the same process of running the repair.
I applied it, and it restored some brightness control. But the max brightness was about 30-40%, which made my screen too dark. I don't dare modify the registry without understanding what I'm doing. How could I maybe change the values in the registry to improve on this?
Hi dogimistic, this solution only disables temporarily the proprietary driver, which lets the brightness control work only until windows activates an Nvidia driver within minutes. I prefer to have my screen always at max brightness, but with the full power of the graphics driver. Stefano_85 has a solution that improves the situation, but in my case halves the maximum brightness.
I have Lenovo z500i laptop running "intel hd graphics 4000 " as per my Device Manager . The Intel driver was running fine on windows 8.1. However, after I upgraded my Windows 8.1 to 10, my display dimmed to the point where I can barely see anything.
The latest driver for Intel HD Graphics 4000 is the following version -Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-10-and-Windows-7-8-1-15-33-?product=81499 Download Intel Graphics Driver for Windows 10 and Windows 7*/8.1* [15.33], you could try installing the driver with the following method -drivers/000005629.html How to Manually Install an Intel Graphics Driver in Windows 10 &...; however, it seems like your computer manufacturer has not officially validated Windows 10 for your computer model meaning that it is possible that the driver won't fix the issue, and there is chance that some components or features from your computer might not work as expected. I have checked here -and-netbooks/ideapad-z-series-laptops/ideapad-z500-notebook?beta=false Laptops-and-netbooks :: IdeaPad-Z-Series-laptops :: IdeaPad-Z500-Notebook - Lenovo Support (US), but there is no sing of Windows 10 video drivers.
Most importantly, I already downloaded Intel's Graphics Driver 15.33 as I have mentioned before - and it would not run. Again , it display a message (your driver announced that) "This installation package is not supported by this processor type".
Intel provides generic drivers for general purposes which can be install in any compatible system as long as the computer manufacturer allow the installation of generic drivers. Most of the times the computer manufacturers set their systems to only allow the installation of customized drivers, and in your case customized drivers are provided by Lenovo.
Since you already have the latest driver available from our end and the issue is still present the next the step would be to try with Lenovo's drivers. I have found some posts referring to this matter, please check them and give them a try;

My laptop is ASUS K501UX and when i Updated my driver to latest version [ 15.65.4.4944 ] The (fn Brightness Key) disabled suddenly but other fn keys working correctly. before this update everything is OK and Brightness key worked correctly.
While the brightness controls are added by ASUS, the software brightness controls within the Windows 10 Action Center also do not work, and thus the problem does not lie with the implementation of the physical brightness controls. This appears to be an issue with Windows 10. I don't believe it is strictly an issue with Intel drivers as there are some websites recommending to update nVidia or AMD drivers. I realize this is an old post ... just wanted to advise regarding the software controls not working either.
It's not problem with asus ATK, I have removed asus ATK but brightness control work fine with old intel drivers(without Asus Hotkeys), I think hotkey for britghtnes work using Windows 10 and not ATK. So I think problem with Intel Drivers or Windows 10 1803. I tried to install new drivers(24.20.100.6094) but it's not help.
Generic drivers v4901 were working fine but since Windows 10 april update, they aren't working anymore. I was forced to update to a generic driver because Clevo didn't update them on their website. It's pretty annoying.
I have fitted an ssd and upgraded my Lenovo G575 Laptop from Windows 7 64 bit to Windows 10 64 bit. Everything was working fine except that I cannot adjust the screen brightness with the driver that Windows 10 has installed. I can make the brightness indicator move up and down with the laptop function keys or from Windows settings, but this has no effect at all on the brightness.
Then from the Lenovo site, I downloaded and installed the Windows 7 Drivers in compatibility mode. Again the brightness controls would work but the videos would not play or play with a lot of stuttering.
I'm not sure if I should leave the driver Microsoft chooses dated 2015 (Video works) and try and fix the brightness problem, or install the Windows 8 version dated 2012 (brightness works) and try and fix the video problem.
