VentaFax provides facsimile message reception and transmission with fax modems that support Fax Class 1, 1.0, 2 and 2.0 command sets. You can receive or send faxes manually, without breaking ongoing conversations on a parallel telephone. Also you can transmit a fax by dialing a number using the modem. In auto-answer mode the program can receive a fax automatically without your assistance.
VentaFax also provides answer type recognition for incoming and outgoing calls. For example, the program may detect a voice answer when trying to send out a fax. In this case it can play a pre-recorded message before initiating transmission, such as "Press the Start button on your fax machine now". When in auto-answer mode, the program will detect whether a caller wants to send you a fax or to speak. It then starts either fax reception or voice message recording accordingly.
An unregistered Home Version of VentaFax is considered the trial version. The trial version is fully functional for 30 days. There are no restrictions, however there is a reminder of the unregistered status upon each program startup. Nothing changes after the 30-day period has elapsed, but it is expected that you will honor the trial terms and register the program if you wish to continue using it.
Although fully functional in all basic aspects, it is our expectation that any use of VentaFax for business (profit-making) purposes will result in an upgrade and use of the Business Version of VentaFax.
The main difference of the Business Version (besides the license cost) is an unlimited number of scheduled delivery jobs that can be performed without user assistance at an appropriate time. Both faxes and voice messages can be scheduled.
The Business Version can be obtained after full payment only and is not subject for trial use. To download and install the program, you have to pay for the license first. For trial use and testing, please use the Home Version.

The program is unable to open a facsimile message file assigned for transmission. This can happen in scheduled delivery when the file has been deleted or the device where it is located is inaccessible at the time of transmission (e.g., if the file is on a floppy disk and the disk is not in the floppy drive).
Make sure the voice command set is set correctly (see the Connection - Modem tab). If this error appears only when the program performs phone number dialing operations, you probably have the Dial a number in data mode before entering voice mode setting enabled (under the Transmission - Dialing - Advanced tab) and this is not supported by your modem. Disable the setting.
If the Recognize telephone line state - for outgoing calls settings (Voice - Signal Recognition tab) are enabled, most likely the handset on the other end was not picked up. If these settings are disabled and the program cannot recognize the telephone line state, this error will also occur when the number dialed is busy and when voice answer has been detected upon fax transmission.
The modem detected the recipient's fax answer but was unable to establish a connection during the time period specified by the Wait for connect no more than, s setting under the Fax - General tab.
For reception, this means the program received the last-transmitted page of a facsimile message, but not confirmation that it was the last page. For transmitting, this means the program has sent out the page, but did not receive confirmation.
This error suggests that the program was unable to determine the cause of an error. Most likely the modem could not execute a command sent by the program. Usually this is related to incorrect voice command set selection under the Connection - Modem - Voice tab.
The modem returned an Error message for a command that was sent. Most likely, an incorrect voice command set is selected under the Modem - Properties - Voice tab.
For some modems, answering on the first ring is not recommended because the modem may not respond to commands during the process of phone number identification, which is transmitted as Caller ID after the first ring. Thus, an Er 23 error message is displayed. If it is absolutely necessary to force the modem to answer on the first ring, make sure this works with your modem, since the program cannot disable the Caller ID feature when interacting with the modem via TAPI.
This error usually occurs during reception if communication with the transmitting fax has been terminated, but the receiving modem has not detected it and mistakes telephone line noise for a valid data signal.
The modem has not detected any response signals from the remote fax, so it could not begin the connection establishment procedure. Never pick up a telephone extension during facsimile exchange. In a manually established connection, follow the procedure prescribed in the Manual transmission features section.
This error can also arise during voice message recording because of an incorrect silence level setting (set by the Treat max. signal volume as silence at ... rel. units setting under the Voice - Signal Recognition tab). The program has detected silence on the telephone line after the answering machine has responded and so has tried to receive a fax. You can find the solution for this problem in the section Answering machine records partial messages or does not record messages at all.
The phone number being dialed is on the modem Black List. A number of countries (for example, Germany) limit the frequency of phone number redialing. Dialing the same number too often is not allowed. Modems sold in such countries have special blocking which prevents you from redialing a number immediately.
If the error arises during scheduled delivery, increase the Minimum interval between redial attempts, s under the Scheduled Delivery - For tasks by default tab, say, to 120 seconds. Please note that the new setting will affect new scheduled tasks only.
Some modems have a country code setting. This setting can be adjusted by a special command or by modem driver settings (for winmodems or softmodems). For additional information, refer to your modem manual.
