Thanksgiving Volunteering Opportunities

Dear LA Idealist,

Can you believe that it is finally the Fall Season? Thanksgiving is just a few weeks away! DWC's Day Center is starting to prepare for the celebration and we would love our volunteers to join us. We will have lots of fun activities planned and opportunities for you all to be a part of the day! Below, you will find information on how to sign up to volunteer for Thanksgiving as well as our Wish List for those interested in donating.

How to Celebrate the Day With Us!
We highly encourage you to sign up as early as possible if you would like to volunteer on Thanksgiving Day. We will try to place as many volunteers with your desired tasks if possible. However, there are tasks that are more in demand than others, and in this case, we assign them as the duty becomes available. Whether or not we are able to place you with a volunteer job for the day, we always welcome our supporters and volunteers to join us for Lunch at 11:30am. Sign ups will begin on Monday, November 2nd.

We will have two shifts for those who wish to volunteer for Thanksgiving. Please indicate which shift you would like to work when you sign up.

First Shift: 6:30-8:30am Volunteers may sign up to bring eggs, milk, toast, fresh fruit, breakfast meats, juice and coffee to serve and share with the Ladies!

Duties of this first shift include: set up, food preparation, baking, holiday crafts, and clean-up.

Second Shift: 8:30-11:00am Volunteers may sign up to bring in a pie or dessert to serve after Lunch.

Duties of this second shift include: holiday crafting, hosting activities, serving food, hosting tables, clean-up and, of course, spending time with the Ladies.

Third Shift: 11am-2pm Duties of this third shift include: holiday crafting, hosting activities, raffles, karaoke, serving a meal, hosting tables, clean-up, and of course spending time with the Ladies.

Join DWC at Homewalk 2009!!!

Join Team DWC in HomeWalk - a 5K walk, part of United Way of Greater Los Angeles' year-round campaign to end homelessness. In 2008, over 4,000 people and 250 volunteers walked together to raise approximately $500,000. Money raised will go towards housing communities and educating about the importance of Permanent Supportive Housing! Participants in HomeWalk are also led on an educational journey, inspiring walkers to learn more about the crisis of homelessness and what they can do to solve it. Downtown Women's Center will be apart of this event and we need your help! Join our team or sponsor DWC by donating! Please contact Community Outreach Assistant Steven Alvarez at Ste...@DWCweb.org or 213-680-0600 Ext. 210 for more information!
