Hey
With Diwali over, everyone is back to business. It is also time for us to think about the place where we live, its beauty, pride and also prejudice. Though we have grown financially, we have not been able to match this financial prowess with a high degree of upkeep for the society. You can see some flats with covered balconies, dish antennas right at the balcony, leakages that can put anyone to shame, and a lot of blame games.
In a natural case, members will blame the Committee in charge. But remember, they are not our paid employees. They work voluntarily and have done a commendable job so far. They are trustees of our money and under no circumstances we can order them to do any work.
I would rather blame it on us, the members, 192 in total. We have not been able to do justice by volunteering to help the society keep its decorum, structure and discipline. The balconies were covered and antennae installed because the neighbours didn’t care to inform in time. Leakages happen because we are not ready to co-operate in repairing because it doesn’t happen to our interiors.
We have a very strong ladies force, pardon me for saying this, but they also have not been able to come forward in airing their views, get things done. Do they know that at least 2 to 3 guest houses are run in the society? This could anytime take an ugly turn.
Having broken all the asbestos panels with football, it is time for some cricket and that too with seasoned ball at the garden. We must understand, we live at a place where there is no facility for playground. This is a ground reality. There could a thousand excuses against this but we need to find just one to stop getting converted a garden into a playground. Just the same way we don’t argue with airport security when they ask us to put the mobile in handbags. We obey because we want to fly. Here we find excuses instead. Lately, it is heard that we have parking mafia, real estate mafia, maintenance mafia and servants mafia.
Another important factor we should remember is that we are not investment bankers. They money that we have paid as maintenance is to see that we do not have leaked walls, broken tiles, unpainted railings, staff that could resist alteration of exteriors, uninterrupted water supply, proper garden maintenance and security. And if we could do anything more than we had when we took over, it will add colours.
So instead of blaming any individual, can we have a like minded set of people who can contribute voluntarily to this cause? How? Don’t know. We have to find answers.
