Dear Mr. Varaj,
I have personally noticed that some of these bison panels are broken and damaged but this is due to mishandling of these panels during AC installations and maintenance.
These Bison board panels are meant for such installations and not cheap by any means, the Architect had a vision of these designer bison panels with cut outs as vents.
Changing them to aluminum louvers might not be a practical solution from cost and it won’t look good aesthetically because the openings are very wide, typically aluminum louver openings should be narrow to look good.
These bison panels should last a long time so let’s exploit them for few more years before we start spending capital money from members of from our pocket.
Let Facility staff keep a vigil on the AC installers to make sure they don’t damage these panels.
Thanks

ü Please consider the environment, do you really need to print this e-mail? P
Thanks for your educative mail message attempting our lahabitatians to
know the use of Bison Particle Boads used in louver's covers for our
society and please find enclosed herewith the working procedures
required as per IS 14276 - 1995 or its latest revision and the
construction procedures we have adopted during the actual
construction. There are some points, where I do beg to differ with you
and your architect in selecting the dimensional sizes and supporting
procedures of the already positioned particle boards at said locations
in terms of the suitibility of the selection of the material, sizes
and support - design and these are enumerated as:
1.0 Bison Panel Board is cement bonded particle board made out of 62% cement
and 28% wood dust which can resonably withstand a degree of compressive
load but immune to tensile/ bending when erected hanging
situation as has been
done at La - Habitatat for external coverage. This used board
size is around 900
mm x 900 mm ( in maximum location) and 6-8 mm thickness (average). Usually
at the factory point ( there under covered storage area) the average water
absorption is around 9% wnereas when externally used, this board even in
summer are subjected to absorptions moisture from air thus losing
its durability
in partial terms.
2.0 Please refere to page no: 13 of this enclosed documents and note
that no where
in construction by Pacifica at La - Habitat, concerned
contractor has followed
either recommended edge distance, spacing of edge fixing and spacing of
intermediate support @ 400 mm where 6-12 mm boards are used/fixed. This
clarification you may ask from your designer / architect /
constrction engineers
why they have deviated ?
3.0 While using the mechanical screw in fixing such type of boards, usual good
construction practice is to use lock-nuts with an accompanying
metal washers
at the tail-end of the screw. No where this is visible.
Beside, with due regards on your knowledge and wisdom, I do differ on
your comments that your are giving primacy on good aesthetical look of
structure instead of structural durability, sustainbility and
maintenance and operational requirement and use. Please note that La -
Habital is in Ahemedabad, India and not in any european or american
city, where set means , good and proven iner / intra systems are
available within the affordable reach to all concerned. Here actually
lies all the troubles. By saying so, I am not inclined to down grade
my country but like to inform you and your designer that while
selecting any design and materials please undersatnd the suitibility
at the first instance and don't get carried away by good talks and
apparent looks. I do till believe that use of BBP panels is good for
inetrior decorative wall cladding. Suggestion of use of unglazed 3 mm
thickness aluminium panels as covers of exiting louvers by some of our
distinguished member will not look bad even aesthetically in the given
situation wherin, we all looking for long sustainbility and durability
of structure may be necessary for repeated maintenance of outer units
of concealed split air conditioners.
I am looking forward an early response from you. with this I remain.
Onceagain with thanks and regards,

Lol.. policy.. who makes policy.. it sounds like raguram rajan making policy for rbi and la habitat..
Learned committee members do not bother to reply on mails.. i wonder do all of them have email accounts and do they know how to operate .. responding is little far fetched idea..
Am not sure why this forum has opened up again..we are hitting the wall again..
